I am one of the three Labour councillors in Wembley Central. My fellow ward councillors are Cllr Krupa Sheth and Cllr Wilhelmina Mitchell-Murray.
Together we were elected in May 2014 on a mandate to clean up our streets, tackle anti-social behaviour and build community spirit.
I am personally passionate about the way the residents feel about Wembley Central. The view that people have of their local area affects many aspects of their lives. If we are to protect Wembley Central from the effects of government cuts, then we need to come together as a community.
Beyond Wembley Central, I am a homelessness campaigner. I am the Chair and founder of ‘The Labour Campaign to End Homelessness’, which asks the Labour Party to commit to ending homelessness by 2030. One of my earliest memories is of watching my mum interview homeless people for her research. Two decades later, there are more homeless people in the UK than ever before. This is the issue I care about most of all.
Additionally, I am heavily involved with youth politics and trade union politics. I’m the Labour Link Officer at UNISON LGO branch, the Youth Officer for the Ealing Branch of the GMB, and a committee member of GMB Young London. I am also the Vice-Chair of Brent Young Labour, the Secretary of the Young Fabians Health Network and a member of the Co-operative Party.
